Founded in 1912 by Renzo Frau in Turin as a furniture company, Poltrona Frau has been the official supplier to the Savoy royal family since 1926 and can boast of having furnished exclusive homes, grand hotels and the interiors of the 1928 Turin Expo and the Italian Navy's luxury liner Rex. The fame of Poltrona Frau's leather furniture arrived in 1962 with the acquisition by the Nazareno Gabrielli group and the consequent relocation to Tolentino, in the Marche region, an area known for its manufacturing vocation specialising in leather work. The entry of the Charme Investments fund in 2004 gave rise to the Poltrona Frau Group furniture cluster - which also includes Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, Cappellini and Cassina - later acquired in 2014 by the American group Haworth. Leather sofas are the trademark of Poltrona Frau, which has made its mark on the Marche region's tradition of top-quality craftsmanship in the leather goods sector, giving shape to models that have become classics of Made in Italy furniture, such as the Chester sofa and the Vanity Fair armchair, which have been used to furnish homes, offices, places of interaction and public spaces for over a century. In addition to the exclusive handcrafted treatments, Pelle Frau® stands out for its vast range of colours: in addition to the leathers treated ad hoc for the Contract and Interiors in Motion divisions, those dedicated to living are available in nine collections for a total of 182 colours and types to choose from.
